“We suffer primarily not from our vices or our weaknesses, but from our illusions. We are haunted, not by reality, but by those images we have put in their place.” ~Daniel J. Boorstin
Happy Halloween!
I love this time of the year! It’s an opportunity to dress up as a character for a day and participate in fun activities. It’s a chance to play a role, often unlike your true personality.
Treat or Trick?
Halloween, also, marks the unfolding of the holiday season which will come and go quickly over the next (often stressful) several weeks. For many, the candy that Halloween brings with it represents a big test of self-control. If we are not careful, it can kickoff a season of gluttony followed by frantic New Year’s resolutions to lose weight and get back into shape.
It can be tempting to allow yourself to “cheat” and have a few “treats” because you’ve “been so good lately”. Unfortunately, one treat can seem to “trick” you into eating several more until you end up feeling completely defeated by a bag of candy!
Formula for “Natural” Fitness
Ever wonder what the Formula is for being “naturally” fit? Awareness, education, and the right mindset set you up for success! Identify what triggers you. If there is candy that you cannot control yourself around (be honest!), don’t bring it into the house!
“Naturally” thin people do allow themselves to eat candy that they love, but they do so as a treat and they are mindful of what they are consuming. They don’t eat just because it is there – as if it’s haunting them. It has to be something they truly enjoy. They do not sit in front of the television like a zombie with a bag of candy, mindlessly eating. They realize that one or two pieces of candy is more than enough. If they overindulge, they will pay a price (e.g., feeling stuffed, bloated, uncomfortable).
Achieving Moderation
Developing and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits takes time and effort. I recognize my suggestion for moderation may not be easily achieved at first. It takes time to change how your body and mind have been conditioned for years. You may need extra assistance setting goals, learning new habits, and staying motivated. Most people benefit from individualized attention and a strong support system.
